Ohio State football coach Ryan Day’s assistants are terrific recruiters and three defensive coaches are ranked in the top 10.

Ryan Day is once again loading up his Ohio State football team and has outstanding assistants helping him do so. I looked at three offensive coaches in a previous article so now let’s look at three on the other side of the ball who are ranked among the top 10 in the 2021 recruiter rankings.

Of course you would expect Kerry Coombs to be one of the top recruiters and he is ranked No. 4. Even though he has only been back to Ohio State a couple of months he sure hit the ground running.

Not surprisingly he is credited for landing cornerbacks Jakallin Johnsin and Devonta Smith as well as safety Andre Turrintine with the number of defensive backs as he has sent to the NFL.

Linebackers coach Al Washington comes in at No. 5. He is credited with helping bring in five-star recruits SDE Jack Sawyer and RB TreVeyon Henderson as well as four-star recruits ILB Reid Carrico and S Jaylen Johnson.

It’s not a coincidence Sawyer, Carrico and Johnson are in-state recruits. Coach Washington grew up in Columbus and coached under Luke Fickell in Cincinnati so he knows the Ohio recruiting landscape well.

Defensive line coach Larry Johnson is No. 8 on the list. Coach Johnson was the primary recruiter for Sawyer, the No. 3 overall player in the class, and the No. 8 DT Mike Hall.

With the number of defensive linemen the legendary coach has sent to the NFL who wouldn’t want to play for him. And by the way, his players love him.

Next. RB Position goes from weakness to strength. dark

Ryan Day has an outstanding group of assistants to say the least. You know the head coach appreciates the fact they can recruit terrific young players and then coach them up.
