Ohio State Football: Transfer RB and Buckeyes a great fit
It was reported today Trey Sermon will play for the Ohio State football team next season. The RB and the Buckeyes are a great fit.
In his first year coaching the Ohio State football team Ryan Day hauled in a top five recruiting class. He only had one running back in the class but today graduate transfer Trey Sermon announced he will play for the Buckeyes.
It’s a great fit for both the former Oklahoma Sooner RB and the Buckeyes. With the exception of Master Teague and Demario McCall the Ohio State running backs are inexperienced.
Also, Teague and Marcus Crowley are dealing with injuries and McCall has bounced back and forth between H-back and RB, so Sermon will have a chance at earning significant playing time his senior year.
Having a proven back is definitely a plus for the Buckeyes. Sermon rushed for 2,076 yards (6.1 yards per carry) and 22 touchdowns for the Sooners. He also caught 36 passes for 391 yards and 3 scores.
It’s hard to say if Teague or Crowley will be 100 percent for fall camp. While Steele Chambers rushed for 135 yards (7.1 yards per carry) and a score last season he only played in three games.
Coach Day has the talented running back Miyan Williams joining the team in June but you never know what you will get from a first year player. And in college football, the more backs the better.
With the way Urban Meyer and Ryan Day have recruited most position units were pretty well stocked, except possibly the running backs. Now with Sermon transferring in, that unit looks promising as well.
Coach Day has pushed all of the right buttons since taking over as head coach of the Buckeyes. And when it comes to reloading his team, he has proven he can bring in top-tier recruits and find transfers to fill in areas of need. Trey Sermon is a perfect example of bringing in a player who is a great fit.
