The Ohio State football team could certainly use another RB heading into the 2020 season and there may be a veteran coming in soon.

The running backs on the Ohio State football team certainly don’t lack talent. However, there are issues concerning lack of experience and injuries to two backs.

Coach Tony Alford could be adding a veteran to his running back room soon though. It has been widely reported Oklahoma Trey Sermon will leave the program as a graduate transfer and he would certainly be an asset to Ohio State’s running back room.

Although there are only two Crystal Ball predictions as to where he ends up they are for Ohio State. That makes sense as the coach Alford could use one more back and Sermon obviously wants to go where he will have an opportunity to carry the ball.

Add in the fact that he was a Buckeye target before committing to play for the Sooners makes it a promising situation for coach Alford.

Here is what Sermon brings to the table as far as production. He rushed for 2,076 yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry and  22 touchdowns for Oklahoma. He also caught 36 passes for 391 yards and 3 more scores.

His rushing totals surpass those of all running backs on the Ohio State roster.

Master Teague rushed for 895 yards his first two seasons and as freshmen Marcus Crowley rushed for 237 yards and Steele Chambers 135. Add in Demario McCall’s totals (553) and the four have rushed for 1,820 yards, and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground.

If the players on the roster are healthy, and along with incoming freshman Miyan Williams are impressive in fall camp, adding Sermon may not be necessary. But having a veteran presence in any unit is an asset.

Next. Fun facts all Buckeye fans must know. dark

Just think about the leadership Jonah Jackson brought to the offensive line last season when coach Studrawa was rebuilding it. Adding a graduate transfer to the running back room could positively affect the unit the same way next season.
