J.K. Dobbins broke school records and was consistently one of the best players on the field during his Ohio State football career. So why is he being mocked as the third best running back in the 2020 draft?

J.K. ALLLLL DAY was a common saying heard by anyone watching the Ohio State football team this past fall. J.K. Dobbins was a leader on and off the field and racked up over 2,000 rushing yards.

Even with his excellent season, Dobbins is not getting much respect in mock drafts.

According to Grinding the Mock, which looks through tons of different mock drafts that are taking place and compiles average positions players are being selected, J.K. Dobbins is averaging going in the second round.

This positioning sounds about right given how running backs are valued in the NFL. However, the part I can’t understand is that Dobbins is projected to be the third running back taken.

Georgia’s D’Andre Swift and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor are both being projected to be selected ahead of Dobbins.

Both of these players are good running backs, but neither of them put up the stats that Dobbins did, especially in the big games. Dobbins ran for 714 yards and 8 touchdowns in the last four games of the season, when the worst team Ohio State played was Michigan.

This is far better than Taylor or Swift were able to do against their top competition. Dobbins has lower stats than he could have had as well since he rarely played much in the second half.

Dobbins showed that he could excel carrying the ball, running routes out of the backfield, blocking and leadership which all should translate to the next level.

He also showed he is the best player in big situations, similar to how Ezekiel Elliot did on his run to the national championship, and he became the No. 4 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

J.K. Dobbins has the skills to be the top running back in this year’s draft. And if he is chosen as the third back, I think two teams will find out they missed out on the most talented player at the position.
