The Ohio State football team is in need of two big running back recruits for the 2021 recruiting cycle. Let’s break down ones who may commit.

The Ohio State football team needs running backs in the worst way. The need for them got even greater this week when it was announced that Master Teague would be sidelined for spring ball with a rumored Achilles injury.

If that injury is serious enough for Teague to miss the entire season, the running back room will look very dicey going into not only the 2020 season but also the 2021 campaign as well. Missing out on top running back recruits the last three recruiting classes has finally caught up to the Buckeyes. The need for a game changer at the position is clear.

The Buckeyes are expected to sign two running backs for the 2021 class. Here is a list of six running back recruits that seem to be top priorities for Ohio State, and which one’s are most likely headed for Columbus. We will put them in order from least likely to commit to most likely.

No. 6: Camar Wheaton- Garland, Texas

Camar Wheaton is the No. 1 ranked running back in this class and has been a target of Ohio State for a while. Head coach Ryan Day and running backs coach Tony Alford made a recent visit to see Wheaton in January before the dead period.

The No. 16 overall player in the class according to 247Sports, Wheaton is being recruited hard by LSU, Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma and SMU among many others. Obtaining his services would be very hard for the Buckeyes as he is considered an Oklahoma lean at the moment.

No. 5 : Will Shipley- Matthews, North Carolina

Will Shipley is a five-star running back who made a visit to Columbus last October for the Wisconsin game. By all accounts that visit went extremely well and he said at the time that he was looking to set up another visit to Ohio State before he makes a decision.

The No. 20 ranked player in this class, Shipley has been a top target of Clemson and Notre Dame, both of which are currently the favorites to land him. But who knows, if another visit does occur it may be hard to say no to what Ohio State can offer for Shipley.
