Injuries have made the RB situation on the Ohio State football team interesting.  Demario McCall should be given every chance to play significant snaps at running back this season, even if Master Teague is healthy.

Demario McCall is a special player who has not been able to put it all together during his four years in the Ohio State football program. Due to injury and being buried on a depth chart when J.K. Dobbins became one of the most prolific backs in Ohio State history, McCall has not made the impact he would like to have during his career.

Now is the time.

Just recently Ryan Day has brought up McCall as a possibility of playing slot receiver. While I think McCall would do well playing the slot, with the injury to Master Teague running back just became a priority for the Buckeyes.

McCall may not have the power and durability to be an every down running back, but he has tremendous ability to play on passing downs or to split time as a running back, slot receiver and h-back.

His speed, explosiveness and ability to catch the ball make him a threat to either take a hand off or run a route out of the backfield. McCall would be able to consistently provide Justin Fields with a check down option if the bevy of talented wide receivers are covered.

Adding a duel threat in the backfield would also open up the playbook for Ryan Day to utilize a number of schemes that need a pass catching running back.Even if Master Teague is ready to start the season (and we are all wishing him a speedy recovery) McCall needs to be given the chance to prove himself, especially in early games.

A tandem of Teague powering between the tackles and McCall racing around the outside are the best options for Ohio State to be a top five offense in 2020. McCall will have all spring ball to show he deserves a spot to become the next great Ohio State hybrid back.
