Ohio State Football: Will former Buckeye Mike Vrabel land QB Tom Brady?
Former Ohio State football player Mike Vrabel is heading into his 3rd season as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Will he land his former teammate Tom Brady?
Mike Vrabel was an outstanding Ohio State football player and also served as an assistant before leaving to go back to the NFL. In his second season as head coach of the Tennessee Titans he led his team to the AFC Championship Game
After defeating the defending Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in the Wild Card round, the Titans came up short to the eventual Super Bowl LIV Champions, Kansas City Chiefs 35-24.
After a gutsy decision to bench starting quarterback Marcus Mariota in favor of Ryan Tannehill, Vrabel’s move proved to be a success. Tannehill was awarded the 2019 Comeback Player of the Year award after a tremendous season for the Titans. He threw for 3,111 yards with 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions as the Titans starter for 13 games.
The Titans’ strong defense, along with the playmaking ability of RB Derrick Henry, will make them a Super Bowl contender next season as well. With the NFL combine wrapping up in Indy this past weekend, NFL free agency kicks off on March 18th.
The biggest story line of the NFL offseason has been the possible landing spots for several free agent quarterbacks that will hit the open market in a few weeks. Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill are among the experienced veterans of this free agent quarterback class.
When the 6x Super Bowl Champion QB Tom Brady hits the free market, it will be quite the task to lure Brady to a franchise that is not the New England Patriots. With rumors of the Raiders, Colts, Titans, Buccaneers and Chargers as potential landing spots for Brady, Vrabel seems to have the upper hand in this fight.
For eight seasons Brady and Vrabel shared the same sideline together winning three Super Bowls in New England.
There has been plenty of speculation as to whether Tom Brady is staying or leaving the Patriots. Even more so about Brady leaving is circulating after Patriots WR Julian Edelman and Brady were seen FaceTiming Vrabel while both were at the Syracuse vs. North Carolina basketball game on Saturday.
Although it may be odd to picture Tom Brady suited up in a Tennessee uniform, he could be the final piece of the puzzle for the Titans to get to the Super Bowl. If anyone can convince Brady to come to Nashville, it is Mike Vrabel.
