Ohio State Football: Buckeyes clearly in on top RB recruit
The Ohio State football team looks to add a couple of top running back prospects for the 2021 class. Donovan Edwards is one of them.
The No. 2 ranked running back in the country according to 247Sports is predicted to be a Ohio State Buckeye. Steve Wiltfong and Allen Trieu of 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions each announced Tuesday that Donovan Edwards of West Bloomfield, Michigan is their prediction to become a Buckeye. While his overall forecast is still 50/50 between Ohio State and Michigan, things are trending in the right direction for the Scarlet and Gray.
The four-star running back is high on the list of schools such as Michigan, Georgia and LSU but clearly Ohio State has emerged as a front-runner for his services. This would be a massive blow to Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines, losing one of Michigan’s top high school players to their arch rival.
Jeremy Birmingham of Lettermen Row broke down at exactly what a Crystal Ball Prediction is and what it means when it comes to recruits:
"To be clear, I’m a fan of the entire crystal-ball prediction system. I think it serves as a wonderful barometer for people looking for some way to sort through the quagmire that college football recruiting has become. But the system isn’t meant to guarantee where a prospect ends up. It’s meant to suggest where the momentum in their recruitment is now."
So right now the momentum is squarely in favor of Ohio State when it comes to this dynamic running back, but in now way is this recruitment over. There is still along way to go before next Decembers early signing day so coach Ryan Day and his staff needs to keep the pedal down in regards to Edward’s recruitment.
Edwards was offered a scholarship from Ohio State back in 2018 so he has been a top target of theirs for a while. And I’m sure both Ryan Day and running backs coach Tony Alford, both of whom have been recruiting him the hardest, have built solid relationships with Edwards over these past two years.
But for now, all Ohio State can do is wait as the recruiting dead period ends here shortly and coaches can get back in touch with their recruits. Hopefully we can see a verbal commitment from Edwards soon and it can ease the minds of so many fans wonder why they can’t land a top running back recruit.
