The Ohio State Buckeyes fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes Thursday because they couldn’t slow down Luca Garza. Now they are about to face two terrific scorers.

Ohio State traveled to Iowa City looking to improve to 8-7 in Big Ten play. One of the best scorers in the country wouldn’t let it happen. Now the Buckeyes will face two players who know how to put the ball in the hole.

Ohio State had won five of six games but the run hit a speed bump when they found out Lika Garza is nearly impossible to stop. He scored 24 points and led the Iowa Hawkeyes to the victory.

Against the Maryland Terrapins, the Buckeyes will be challenged to slow down guard Anthony Cowan Jr. who is averaging 16.7 points per game and forward Jalen Smith who is scoring at a 15.4 clip. The two have led the Terrapins on a nine-game winning streak.

In the previous meeting between the two teams Cowan scored 20 points and Smith had 11 in the Terrapins’ 67-55 win. If the two get on a roll today it won’t bode well for the Buckeyes.

It’s always a challenge when facing a team with a player averaging over 15 points per game but even more so when they have two. It’s difficult to play help defense on one because the other may torch you.

If the Buckeyes can contain these two outstanding players, there is one other thing they must do to have a chance of pulling out a win over the Big Ten leader.

Ohio State can’t allow Maryland to get off to a big lead early like Iowa did going up 31-13. The Buckeyes fought back hard against the Hawkeyes but couldn’t overcome that big deficit. They have to keep things close to have a chance of pulling off the win over the Terrapins.
