Ohio State Football: Fleming, Smith-Njigba listed as best 1-2 WR punch

The Ohio State football team earned a No. 1 ranking for the best 1-2 punch at QB in the 2020 recruiting class. Now they have one at the receiver position.

Earlier this week I wrote a story about how Rivals’ Mike Farrell ranked the Ohio State football team’s CJ Stroud and Jack Miller as the best 1-2 punch at quarterback for the 2020 recruiting class. Well, now he has a ranking for the best 1-2 punch at wide receivers and tight ends for the 2020 class and, again, the Buckeyes are No. 1.

This should come as no surprise as Brian Hartline dominated in recruiting elite pass-catchers for this class as the Buckeyes signed two five stars and two four stars at this position. The two receivers Farrell listed are Julian Fleming and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Fleming is a five star from Pennsylvania and is the No. 1 wide receiver recruit in the entire country and the No. 1 recruit in his entire state, according to 247Sports and Rivals.

This is what 247Sports said about him.

"Terrific combination of size, strength and leaping ability. Easily separates. Speed and physicality make him elite after the catch, and ball skills are exceptional. A game-changer on special teams as well with another gear once he sees the seam or daylight to the end zone."

Fleming had a lot of success in his high school career, winning the High School Football America/National High School Coaches Association Senior Player of the Year award, earning the Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year award twice, and winning three state championships. I expect him to have similar success in Columbus.

Smith-Njigba was also a highly touted recruit as Rivals has him as the fourth-best receiver recruit in the country and the third-best recruit in all of Texas.

This is what 247Sports – who has him ranked fifth in each of those areas – had to say about him.

"Owns above average size with a solid build. Technically sound receiver with good size and massive production against strong competition in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex playing against teams in the largest classification in Texas (Class 6A). Adjusts impressively to the ball in flight. Shows encouraging hands-catching consistency."

These guys were two of the best receivers in the entire country this past high school football season. In 2020 they will be playing on the same team with other talented receivers in Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. Can you imagine what this is going to look like?

The Buckeyes dominated in recruiting this year and the fact that they have the best 1-2 punch at QB and receiver proves that this offense is going to be dangerous for years to come.
