Ohio State Football: Big recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes
The Ohio State football team had a big weekend on the recruiting trail. The latest addition to the 2021 class is defensive tackle Mike Hall.
Head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team received some great news over the weekend as four-star Streetsboro, Ohio native Mike Hall decided to commit to the Buckeyes. The No.19 ranked defensive tackle in the 2021 recruiting class according to 247Sports, Hall is the tenth player to commit to Ohio State and the sixth from the state of Ohio.
Hall has been a target of Larry Johnson’s since early in his junior playing season as he was offered a scholarship last October. Ryan Day kept in constant communication with Hall and that seemed to be key as he quickly committed following his weekend visit to Columbus, according to The Ozone.
This commitment also gets Ohio State back on top over Clemson as the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for 2021. While Hall’s commitment was the big news of the weekend, Ohio State’s coaches were also out busy recruiting.
According to Letterman Row, Ryan Day and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline were in Florida on Friday to offer a scholarship to IMG Academy athlete Kamar Wilcoxson. Wilcoxson is the No. 267 rated player in the 2021 class in is currently committed to Florida, however he is expected to visit Columbus sometime in March.
Day and Hartline also spent time with four-star receiver Troy Stellato of Fort Lauderdale. This is shaping up to be a battle for Stellato’s services between Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama although 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions has him as a Buckeye.
Stellato is an exciting prospect who has been gaining national attention as of late. Back in October, Jeremey Birmingham of Lettermen Row called Stellato the “nations hottest recruit” after being a relatively unknown commodity before the fall.
With the dead period for coaches upon us, where they cannot talk to any prospects for about a month, this was the last weekend to get into key recruits ears until the dead period is over. Don’t be surprised to see another verbal commitment or two over this dead period as top recruits get a chance to sit back and think without being hassled by coaches on a daily basis.
