No. 3 Steele Chambers

This is a huge offseason for former four-star running back Steele Chambers. While there will be a fight for the starting running back job, it sounds like that spot is Master Teague’s to lose.

The real competition will be for who gets the reps when Teague needs a breather. In that role last season, Teague was able to put up 789 yards and four touchdowns rushing. And with Marcus Crowley still trying to come back from an injury he suffered against Maryland this past November, Chambers will get the first crack to impress coaches.

And Chambers is ready to put in the work as this offseason rolls along, here is what he said to Lettermen Row back in December:

"“You can get better in all three aspects,” Chambers said. “You can always study the playbook and get better and better at that. Physically, definitely try to gain weight, get bigger, faster, stronger and be confident in how I play.”"

In only 19 rushing attempts last season, Chambers rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown. An impressive 7.1 yards per rushing attempt, mostly against bad defenses but a great average none the less. He also did not bust a long run during a game as his season long run was only 15 yards. That tells you that his average was not inflated by busting a 60 yard run against a bad opponent.

Again, with Crowley injured and his status unclear for spring practices it is going to be Chambers who will have every opportunity secure the No. 2 running back job and who knows, with a great spring he could even push Master Teague for playing time.
