The Ohio State Football team is working hard to get a running back for its 2021 class, and head coach Ryan Day continued his quest for one on Wednesday.

It has been widely known that the Ohio State football program is trying really hard to get a top running back for its 2021 recruiting class. The Buckeyes have already sent offers to running backs Donovan Edwards, Camar Wheaton, Corey Kiner, Cody Brown, Will Shipley, Evan Pryor, and Lovasea Carroll, according to 247Sports.

While there is still a long road ahead, the mutual interest between the Buckeyes and the No. 1 running back in the nation, Camar Wheaton, is encouraging.

According to Land-Grant Holy Land, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day paid a visit to Wheaton at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas on Wednesday. That is not just Day showing his interest though, as Wheaton has already been to Ohio State and has expressed interest in another visit.

Wheaton wanting to come visit Columbus again is certainly a good sign that the Buckeyes could be one of his top destinations. There is one 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction that has Wheaton going to Oklahoma, but he also has offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, and others.

Landing Wheaton would be monumental for the Buckeye program as his 247Sports Composite score of .9954 would be the third-highest for any Buckeye running back commit in OSU history. Chris Beanie Wells is No. 1 on that list as his score was .9965, and Sam Maldonado is second as his was .9964. The highest rating since Wells in 2006 was Jaamal Berry in 2009 who had a score of .9812.

For Wheaton, Ohio State could help develop him into a great running back. You can see the work the Buckeyes did with Ezekiel Elliott who is now one of the top backs in the NFL, and then J.K. Dobbins put up historic numbers during his three-year career at OSU and is now one of the top backs in this year’s NFL Draft.

This program has a recent track record of developing running backs and making them elite. That should make anyone want to come to Columbus.

Next. Ryan Day emphasizing homegrown talent in recruiting. dark

Wheaton would be great for Ohio State who hasn’t had raw talent like that in its backfield in years, and Ohio State would be great for him, a young guy who – I assume – has hopes to get to the NFL. Hopefully, Day and company can work their magic and make it happen.
