Ohio State Football: 3 defensive players who could be All-Americans
Baron Browning – linebacker
Baron Browning will finally get the chance to prove to the world why he was a five-star recruit coming out in the 2017 class. Having to split playing time his entire career as a Buckeye, Browning will be set to get a lot of playing time next season.
Gene Ross of Landgrantholyland.com predicts that Browning may play the Will linebacker position in replacement of Malik Harrison:
"Browning is an incredibly talented and versatile LB, and I think he would be more than capable of filling in for Harrison on the weak-side. Harrison and Browning are almost identical in size, and there should be no problem with Brownings’ skillset as a former five-star recruit translating to the outside."
Blessed with tons of natural ability, Browning will get a chance to rush the passer more this season, especially with the loss of so many defensive linemen. It will be as hard as it has been in a while for the Ohio State defensive line to generate a pass rush like we’re use to seeing, though. Expect to see Browning used as either a down lineman pass rusher or as a blitzing linebacker on third downs.
Also gifted with the speed to be a true sideline-to-sideline player, Browning will have to step up and play big the upcoming season in order for Ohio State to get to where it wants to be. And if he plays the way that he is fully capable of playing, then an All-American title could be given to Browning’s name.
Here is an under-the-radar name that can come up big next year.
