Ohio State Football: Ryan Day keeps loading his No. 1 recruiting class
Ryan Day added plenty of talent to the Ohio State football team in his first recruiting class and now he keeps adding to his No. 1 ranked 2021 class.
This past week two more recruits announced they would join the Ohio State football team in 2021. That now gives coach Day nine players in his top ranked class.
Tuesday, safety Jaylen Johnson committed and yesterday guard Donovan Jackson did as well. Johnson is the fifth in-state recruit in the class and Jackson has ties to Ohio.
Let’s first look at the two players along with rankings in the 247Sports Composite. I’ll begin with the most recent commit.
Jackson is the top ranked guard in the country and the No. 57 player overall. He is from Bellaire, Texas and is listed at 6 ft. 4, 308 pounds.
Apparently traveling far from Texas to play college ball wasn’t an issue, possibly because he will be close to family. Here is what Jackson had to say about the situation as reported by Bill Kurelic of 247Sports.
"“Basically the entire side of my mom’s family lives in Cincinnati,” Jackson said. “There’s too many to count.”"
Jackson gives coach Greg Studrawa two outstanding offensive linemen in the class. He joins Ben Christman, the No. 10 tackle and the 56th overall player.
Now for the third defensive player in the class.
Jaylen Johnson is from Cincinnati, Ohio and listed at 6 ft. 1, 205 pounds. He is ranked as the 18th best safety and No. 421 overall player.
More than likely coach Day will want to load up on defensive backs in this recruiting cycle and by landing Johnson he is off to a good start.
Here are the other players in the 2021 Ohio State recruiting class with their 247Composite position and overall rankings.
- Jack Sawyer: No. 2 SDE, 2nd overall player
- Kyle McCord: No, 5 PRO, (33)
- Marvin Harrison: No. 8 WR, (54)
- Jayden Ballard: No. 11 WR, (73)
- Reid Carrico: No. 4 ILB, (121)
- Sam Hart: No. 15 TE, (365)
Not only does Ryan Day have the No. 1 recruiting class at the moment he also leads in commits, and the player average is an outstanding 95.28. I would say coach Day is off to a great start with his second recruiting class.
