The men’s and women’s Ohio State basketball teams struggled in back to back nights as both lose at Maryland in Big Ten play.

It has been rough week so far for Ohio State basketball.  The men’s and women’s teams went on the road to Maryland in back to back nights and lost.

Both were involved in important Big Ten games and came up short.  The women were taken down 72-62 and the next night the men fell 67-55 to the Terps.

The Maryland women’s team entered the game ranked No. 17 in the country.  Kaila Charles is their All-American and she showed why by finishing with 28 points and 7 rebounds.

Ohio State had a season high 25 turnovers due mostly to full court pressure in the second half by the Terrapins.  Jacy Sheldon and Dorka Juhasz led the way for the Lady Bucks with 12 points each.

Ohio State fell to 8-6 and 9th in the Big Ten but looks to bounce back in Columbus on Thursday against Michigan, currently ranked No. 24.

The Maryland men’s team was ranked No. 12 entering the game against No. 11 Ohio State.  The Terps shot a season best 40% from beyond the three point line and used their size and great defense to hold the Buckeyes to 31.3 percent shooting from the field.

There was a big foul discrepancy also as Ohio State was called for 23 and Maryland only 15.  The Terps were given 24 free throw attempts to the Buckeyes 10.

Maryland used great on ball halfcourt pressure defense to keep Ohio State off-balance and out of rhythm the entire game.  It is clear the Buckeyes miss Kyle Young as he does all of the little things to help the team keep momentum.

Anthony Cowan Jr. led the way for Maryland with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  Kaleb Wesson was the man for Ohio State as he finished with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.

Next. Will Kerry Coombs return to the Buckeyes?. dark

This was the Buckeyes’ third straight loss and they are now 11-4 and 12th in the Big Ten.  It doesn’t get any easier as they head on the road this Saturday to face the 11-3 Indiana Hoosiers at Assembly Hall.  They need this game to right the ship and have a shot at staying in the race for the Big Ten title.
