Ohio State Football: This one is for the entire state of Ohio
By David Wysong
The Ohio State football team can make a lot of fans happy with a win against Clemson on Saturday. The state of Ohio needs this win.
Sure, the Ohio State football team won a national championship in 2014, and the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Finals in 2016. Since that game-seven win for the Cavs though, Ohio teams have had a hard time.
After that 2016 NBA Finals win, the Cavs went to the finals two more times and lost one in five games and the other in four. They then lost LeBron James to the Los Angeles Lakers during the summer of 2018 and have been one of the league’s laughing stocks ever since.
Ohio State has not had the greatest luck since then either as they had only made the College Football Playoff one other time before this year and they lost to Clemson 31-0 in the CFP semifinals.
The Cleveland Indians also had awful luck after that 2016 NBA Finals win for the Cavs. Yes, they went to the 2016 World Series, but they led the Chicago Cubs 3-1 and ultimately lost in seven games.
Then, of course, you have the Cincinnati Bengals who have gone 20-42-1 since 2016 after going 12-4 in 2015. This includes a 1-14 record they have so far this season. The Cincinnati Reds, despite having a great offseason so far this winter, have also been atrocious since 2016 too, going 68-94 in 2016 and 2017, 67-95 in 2018, and 75-87 last season.
Even though many University of Cincinnati fans don’t root for Ohio State, even the Bearcats have had a tough time. With UC being more of a basketball school, they were a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and they saw the one-seed in their region, Virginia, become the first one-seed to lose to a 16-seed. So, the Bearcats had an easy path to the Final Four, right?
Wrong. Despite leading seven-seeded Nevada by 22 points in their second-round game, they ended up losing 75-73. A heartbreaking loss.
Ohio sports has had some great moments. Since 2016, though, they have endured a lot of bad moments. It is time for the Buckeyes to right the ship by defeating Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal game on Saturday. This one is for Ohio.
