In his first season as head coach of the Ohio State football team Ryan Day has an outstanding recruiting class, and most players have signed already. In fact, he has more signees than other classes ranked in the Top 10.

Ohio State football coach Ryan Day has the No. 3 ranked class and most of the recruits he targeted are signed and sealed.

Before looking at coach Day’s outstanding class let’s look at the number of signed players in each of the Top 10 classes in the 247Sports Composite.

  1. Clemson  23
  2. Alabama  22
  3. Ohio State  24
  4. Georgia  17
  5. LSU  19
  6. Texas A&M  21
  7. Auburn  22
  8. Florida 21 with 3 enrolled
  9. Texas  17
  10. Oklahoma  21

It’s obvious after the third year of the Early Signing period coaches now want to get as many players signed in December as possible and fill in the blanks two months later. The Top 10 teams average 20.7 signed recruits, meaning approximately 80 percent recruits are already on board if each has approximately 25 players in their class.

Gone are the days when Nick Saban could hold back until late in the recruiting cycle and then swoop in and get four and five star recruits to commit in late January or early February to land the No. 1 class. However, the master recruiter has certainly adapted to the new rules with another strong class and 22 players who have signed on the dotted line already.

Now for those players signed and sealed in the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class.

  • OT Parris Johnson (1), No. 7
  • WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (5), No. 33

Quite a haul for Ryan Day in his first recruiting class. He will now just have to fill in the blanks to finish it off. He will be taking a second look at recruits who haven’t yet signed or look once again to the Transfer Portal for hot prospects to do so, but with the players he has signed already he won’t have to reach.
