Ohio State Football: Six Buckeye Pro Bowlers prove strength of program
By David Wysong
The Ohio State football program is one of the strongest in the country, and that was proven when the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl rosters were announced.
The NFL announced its 2020 NFL Pro Bowl rosters on Tuesday and it was no surprise that they were filled with former Ohio State football players.
Six former Buckeyes made this year’s Pro Bowl including: Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, San Diego Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa, New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa.
Each of these guys have proven they are the best in the league at their positions. Heyward has 73 total tackles and eight sacks this year while Michael Thomas leads the league in receiving yards with 1,552, and in receptions with 133. Elliott is fifth in the NFL in rushing with 1,188 yards on the ground and fifth in rushing touchdowns with 11 while Joey Bosa has 60 tackles and 10.5 sacks, and Nick Bosa has 41 tackles and nine sacks. Lattimore has 51 tackles and an interception for the Saints this season.
It is one thing to be good at recruiting, but it is the sign of a great program when you can mold those former recruits into great men and great football players who are game-changers at the next level.
I know that us Ohio State fans don’t like giving Alabama or the SEC any credit, but we can all agree that Bama is a top-notch program. The Crimson Tide had seven former players make this year’s Pro Bowl. This clearly shows that Ohio State is comparable to one of, if not the, strongest programs in the country and that they are doing things right.
Only strong programs have this many guys make the Pro Bowl.
I think the number of Buckeyes making the Pro Bowls is only going to grow too as they have several players on this year’s team who are projected to be great players in the NFL.
Players like Chase Young, Jeffrey Okudah, Jordan Fuller, J.K. Dobbins, and many others. These are guys that didn’t just come to college and live off their talent. They are guys who worked hard to get better and that the Ohio State staff worked with to become some of the best players in the nation.
Congrats to all these former Buckeyes and congrats to Ohio State for showing that they know what they’re doing in terms of developing players to become the absolute best they can be.
