The Ohio State football team takes on the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday night. This is a game in which the Buckeye’s are all too familiar with.

Championship level games are what four and five-star recruits come to Ohio State for. These players have the aspirations of winning big games. Sure, they could go to Nebraska or Michigan State and probably be first year starters on average teams. But they come to Ohio State because they want to be apart of greatness.

Come Saturday night the Ohio State Buckeyes will embark on its fifth Big Ten Championship game since its inception in 2011. The Scarlet and Gray have three Big Ten titles under its belt from these games, most in conference history.

In fact, since being left out of the 2016 game, this will be Ohio State’s third title game in a row. Indianapolis is starting to feel like a second home for Buckeye Nation every December.

Ohio State takes on Wisconsin for the third time in this game. The Badgers actually have the most appearances in this game with six. Most of that has to do with them playing in the West division in which is pretty weak compared to the East.

For all the championship appearances and titles brought back to Columbus, we as fans should not take this for granted. This is why we watch, listen and read about our Buckeyes. While we have the aspirations of a National Championship every season, these Big Ten title games are often an after thought.

Yes, it has been about 20 years of Big Ten dominance starting with coach Jim Tressel. But before his time we were the “Michigan” of the Big Ten. Lots of talent, some very good teams, but we could not win the big one.

I think we should take time on Saturday night when we are all at the bar or at home watching the game with family and friends to appreciate what we have in our Ohio State football team. Great coaches, great players and a great sense of community amongst ourselves. Here’s to many more Big Ten Championships to come.
