Ohio State Football: 5 predictions for Big Ten Championship game
Jeff Hafley becomes Head Coach at Boston College when game ends
In the span of one season, Ohio State defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has become one of college football’s hottest names. Not only leading a revamped Buckeye defense to historic numbers but also being named one of 247 sports top recruiters in the country.
It’s no wonder his name has been floated for the Rutgers job, and now for Boston College. Hafley is an east-coast guy who would be a natural fit for the school. Also, Ryan Day has huge ties to the BC program having previously been an assistant with the team.
Ryan Day spoke on the possibility of losing coaches yesterday, from Cleveland.com:
"“Yeah, I mean, one of the reasons that you come here is to be a part of this special family, but it also opens up opportunities for you down the road. I think it’s healthy and it’s good for families. I support that. The one thing I’d ask is to those guys, if that situation were to come up, make sure we finish through this finish line first. We made a commitment to these guys. Most people who are looking for coaches at this time would understand that, what that means. We got a lot of guys who want to be here. I don’t expect any changes or anything like that to come up, but it’s part of the profession.”"
Urban Meyer had a two-year rule when it came to assistant coaches. He expected assistants to remain with the program for two full seasons before they could go out and seek bigger opportunities. It does not appear that Ryan Day has that same rule implemented.
Losing Haffley would be a huge loss for this program. But it does not appear that Day will be standing in his way of getting a head coaching position.
Big scope picture, Boston College would be foolish not to offer this man the job and pay him good money to do so. And Haffley would be foolish to pass it up if his desire is to become a head coach. Boston College plays in a conference where there are games to be won and coaches have had success there in the past.
I’m predicting Hafley takes the B.C. job after the Big Ten Championship game, but finishes what he started this season and coaches these players and this defense through the end of the College Football Playoff run.
