The Ohio State football team has a few players who are being considered for the Heisman Trophy, but none deserve it more than J.K. Dobbins.

Chase Young and Justin Fields are two Ohio State football players who are being considered for the Heisman Trophy, and rightfully so, but running back J.K. Dobbins should be a favorite to win the award.

Dobbins has been a beast all year as he is fourth in the nation in rushing yards with 1,657 yards. He is also fifth in rushing touchdowns with 19.

These are great numbers, but this is without getting many reps at all in the second half of games this year because Ohio State has blown out a lot of its opponents. In fact, he has done all this on only 250 total carries, 68 fewer carries than Boston College’s AJ Dillon who is third in rushing yards, 29 fewer than Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor who is second, and 59 fewer than Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard who leads the nation with 1,936 rushing yards.

He has also come up big in big games.

According to a tweet by Ohio State’s Jerry Emig, these are Dobbins stats against top 15 rush defenses this season: 172 yards, one touchdown against Michigan State (No. 4); 163 yards, two touchdowns against Wisconsin (No. 1); 157 yards, two touchdowns against Penn State (No. 4); and 211 yards, four touchdowns against Michigan (No. 13).

Dobbins also has a good chance to have better stats than some other running backs who won the Heisman Trophy.

Alabama’s Mark Ingram won it in 2009 with 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns while USC’s Reggie Bush won it in 2005 – yes, I still consider him a Heisman winner – with 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns. Dobbins will certainly pass Ingram’s numbers next week as he is just one yard away and has a pretty good shot at passing Bush’s numbers as he is 83 yards away.

Those are two guys who were considered to be game-changers and that’s why they won. Dobbins changes the game just as much as they did, if not more.

The Heisman Trophy has pretty much become an award for quarterbacks and while Ohio State would not be the same team without Justin Fields, and LSU would not be the same team without Joe Burrow, the Buckeyes would not be the No. 1 team in the nation without Dobbins. Give him the Heisman, especially after his Heisman performance against Michigan.
