Ohio State Football: Dwayne Haskins gets his first quality NFL Start
It was an exciting week of action for the Buckeyes in the NFL with Dwayne Haskins having a solid game and plenty of former Ohio State football players finding the endzone.
Former Ohio State football players shined again in Week 11. Doesn’t it seem strange there aren’t many games left in the regular season?
It’s already Week 12 of the NFL season. I know it’s a cliche to talk about how much time is passing, but it doesn’t seem logical we are this close to the end of the season already.
Nonetheless, time goes on and with that there are always Buckeyes to talk about. Lets get into the top performances by former Ohio State football players in Week 11 of the NFL season.
Dwayne Haskins | 19-35, 214 yards, 2 TDs, INT
Ever since Dwayne Haskins was drafted by the Washington Redskins last season, we have been waiting to see him perform in the NFL like he did at Ohio State. While the loss to the Jets last week wasn’t a perfect performance, it was definitely a step up and a sign of improvement.
Let’s face it, Haskins was pretty bad in the limited snaps he saw early in the season. Not all of the blame is on him as he never got consistent playing time, making it hard for him to find a rhythm in an already bad Redskins offense.
He also had to try to make something out of the offense behind a pretty bad offensive line. One of the worst in the league in fact.
So to do what he did last week, even if it was against the one-win Jets, was definitely a sign of things to come for the rookie out of Columbus. On the day Haskins was 19-of-35, for 214 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. Like I said, it wasn’t by any means perfect but he definitely showed flashes in the game he failed to show earlier in the season.
We all know Haskins is a gifted thrower of the football when given time. I think that has been the biggest adjustment coming from Ohio State to the NFL.
At Ohio State, he seldom had to worry about the pass rush. Now, not only are the defenders he is trying to throw against are faster and more talented but he also has less time to throw the ball.
We all knew it was going to take time for him to adjust, and now that he has been named the starter for the rest of the season I’m excited to see him grow as an NFL quarterback.
