Ohio State Football: Fields’ career day leads Buckeyes to 56-21 win

Ohio State has owned Rutgers since they joined the Big Ten. It shouldn't be any different in 2020.

It seems that every week the Ohio State football team blows out the opponent.  This week was no different as the Buckeyes took on the Scarlet Knights.

Even without defensive end Chase Young who was serving the last game of his suspension this week, the Ohio State football team took care of Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have been struggling all season long against conference opponents, losing every game and only winning two non-conference games.

The game started out in the Buckeyes favor as Shaun Wade picked off Rutgers quarterback Johnny Langan on their third play from scrimmage.  Four plays later,  J.K. Dobbins found a small hole, taking it in for an 18-yard touchdown and making it 7-0 Buckeyes.

Rutgers then turned the ball over once again on their next possession. Langan found his receiver Isaiah Washington, but Washington fumbled, leading to a recovery by the Buckeyes.

This then led to a Justin Fields touchdown pass to Binjimen Victor from 11 yards out, making it 14-0. A  few possessions later, Fields then gave the ball to Dobbins who scored his second touchdown of the day as this one was from eight yards out.

Rutgers then found some rhythm at the end of the first quarter as running back Isaih Pacheco kept his balance after nearly being tripped up, and the took it into the end zone from 26 yards out. This made it only a two-touchdown game as Rutgers maybe had comeback hopes.

However, that was not the case as Ohio State took a 35-7 lead into halftime. This was thanks to a Fields 35-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Hill, and a 24-yard pass to Victor, his second touchdown reception of the game.

Fields had one more touchdown and that was in the third quarter where he found Luke Farrell for a 14-yard touchdown. Fields’ day was then done after that drive.

Chris Chugunov came in on the next drive and found Jake Haussmann for a four-yard touchdown. A few possessions later, Chugunov did it again, this time finding Jaelen Gill for a 32-yard touchdown.

Rutgers scored two more times in the game. The second touchdown was a Langan pass to Bo Melton from 45 yards out. Langan then took it in by himself for a one-yard touchdown just a few minutes before the clock hit zero as the Buckeyes celebrated a 56-21 victory.
