The news of Ohio State defensive end Chase Young being held out against Maryland due to a possible NCAA violation shook the sports world. Is OSU in trouble?

Ohio State defensive end Chase Young will not play against Maryland on Saturday due to a possible violation of NCAA rules.

Young announced on Twitter that he made a mistake by accepting a loan from a family friend that he has known since the summer before his freshman year. He said he repaid it in full and is working with the university and NCAA to get back on the field.

If this is true and Young can prove that he did repay his family friend, then maybe he could only miss a game, according to a tweet from Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman.

However, there is a chance that this come become really bad for Ohio State.

CBS reporter Dennis Dodd tweeted that by Young tweeting he accepted a loan from a family friend he made it a layered compliance issue. He will now have to prove there was a pre-existing relationship that has nothing to do with athletics or the NCAA could vacate wins from the Buckeyes.

If the NCAA were to vacate wins, that would be horrible for college football.

Would that mean certain big wins would no longer be considered on Ohio State’s resume? If that’s the case then that could take them out of the College Football Playoff. Their resume would no longer stack up with the likes of LSU or Alabama.

Taking the Buckeyes out of the college football playoff would mean that the best team in college football is not playing in its playoff. Whoever would go on to win the championship would have an asterisk next to the accomplishment.

No one wants the narrative to be, “Yeah they had a great season, but Ohio State didn’t play in the playoffs.” That would be unfair to the winning team.

Next. Preparing for life without Chase Young. dark

I personally do not think that the NCAA will vacate wins but if they do then they will completely hurt the integrity of this college football season. Do, the right thing NCAA – let Chase Young play and don’t take away our wins.
