The Ohio State football has accomplished many things the first six years of the CFP and the Buckeyes have been a team of “firsts” in this era.

The Ohio State football team officially became the No. 1 team in the country as Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings were revealed. The Buckeyes leapfrogged LSU and Alabama who have been ranked No. 1 and 2 interchangeably for the past couple of weeks.

We are in year six of the College Football Playoff and so far it has been filled with questionable, unclear criteria from the committee. But also some of the greatest moments and matchups in recent memory.

Truth be told, despite fans being outraged the committee has gotten the final four correct all things considered.

Last year and in 2015 however, were the years I believe they were incorrect, but that’s another story. For now, the storyline of the CFP is the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Since the very beginning in 2014-15, Ohio State has been a team of “firsts” in this era of football.

After suffering a loss to Virginia Tech and losing a Heisman candidate at QB to injury, the country hung Ohio State out to dry. Long story short, the Buckeyes caught fire and the brotherhood echoed stronger than ever before as they made it to the Big Ten Championship Game.

It was their final test to impress the committee, but they had to do it without JT Barrett who was also hurt. The legend of Cardale Jones was born on a chilly December night as Ohio State put on a fireworks display in Indianapolis routing Wisconsin 59-0 and earning a bid into the first ever CFP.

The dream season continued for Ohio State as they drew big bad Bama in the Sugar Bowl. Following a near nine o’clock kickoff, the Buckeyes erased a 21-6 deficit and took town the SEC giant to the surprise of everyone as Zeke put the game on ice running 85 yards through the heart of the south.

Onto Jerry World where Zeke would lead the Buckeyes yet again in a 42-20 crushing of the Oregon Ducks to win the first ever College Football Playoff. Ohio State also became the first team to win a National Title with a third-string quarterback.

The 2014 Urban Meyer coached Ohio State Buckeyes were one of the most remarkable stories in sports history as they earned their title of Undisputed National Champions.

That title was a first but not the only one.
