Many people say that Ohio State football fans should root for Michigan to be as good as possible. I think that is nonsense, root for them to lose – always.

I always hear fans of different teams, and even some Ohio State football fans, say that we should root for Michigan to be as good as possible. The Wolverines being good when the Buckeyes play them at the end of the year helps OSU’s strength of schedule and quality wins, they say.

Some of the Ohio State fan base says, “I want to be the only team to beat them.”

That is certainly one way to look at it. I look at it the exact opposite way, though. More of a killer, take-no-prisoners mentality.

When it comes to The Team Up North, I don’t want them to win ever at anything, for any reason on Earth. If the Buckeyes are the only team to beat the Wolverines they still get into a bowl game. I don’t want that.

I don’t want them to even be able to say, “You were the only one, we had a great year and made a good bowl game.”

Then to take that thought one step further. I don’t even want there to be a possibility for them to say that they got a bowl win and Ohio State didn’t.

We don’t want their help and we sure as heck don’t need their help, so just root for them to lose.

This is the biggest rivalry in all of sports. I want to beat them every single day at every single thing.

Our practice started before theirs and lasted longer than theirs. We get out of bed before them. Our campus food is better than theirs. Our cars are cleaner than theirs.

To me a rivalry is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It is constant, consistent and always.

A true rivalry that carries as much weight as this one has over the years needs to have that mentality to keep it up there. The history of it is getting further away as we have been dominating for a while now. The Wolverines are turning into just another team the Buckeyes pound on.

Having this mentality keeps the tradition as pure as when it began.

Next. Buckeyes have chance to make CFB history. dark

I don’t care if it’s a candy eating contest. Hey TTUN, lose, all day, every day, at everything, always. Go Buckeyes.
