We still have a long way to go but there are a few teams, including Ohio State, that are legitimate contenders for the College Football Playoff. Let’s take a look at those teams.

The first College Football Playoff rankings will come out Nov. 5th. Until then, we all get to speculate on where each team deserves to be, how that could change and why our team deserves to be No. 1.

Here is where I think Ohio State and the other top teams belong in the rankings.

1. LSU

LSU has seen a complete 180-degree turn in their team identity this year with Joe Burrow under center. A team normally held together by its defense has been winning shootouts by an offense carrying the team.

I have LSU ranked No. 1 because of the top-quality wins. The two top wins against Texas and Florida make up for the cupcakes LSU scheduled in Northwestern State and Georgia Southern.

The Tigers have an almost identical strength of schedule as the Ohio State Buckeyes, according to TeamRankings, but the top-tier wins are putting them on top in my College Football Playoff rankings this week.

Watching Burrow torch opposing defenses has propelled him to the top of Heisman watch lists around the country as ESPN recently ranked him as their No. 1 candidate. Having a Heisman caliber quarterback does wonders for teams contending for national championships, not only in elevating their team but also in bringing national attention to the team each week.

LSU has a tough schedule coming up over their next two games – hosting No. 9 Auburn and then visiting No. 1 Alabama. The Tigers perch atop my College Football Playoff rankings is precarious with the remaining schedule, but as of right now I believe they are the most deserving team in the country.

Now for the No. 2 team.
