The Ohio State football team is ranked No. 3 in the nation and has looked like the best team in the country. Can the Buckeyes beat the other current playoff contenders?

It has looked like the Ohio State football team is the best in the country so far this season. Is that actually the case though? Could they beat the other College Football Playoff contenders?

I think so.

Right now, I am looking at other teams in the top five as the other playoff contenders – Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Oklahoma.

I think the Buckeyes can beat any of those teams.

Yes, if Tua Tagovailoa is healthy the Crimson Tide will be very tough to beat because their offense is fantastic, averaging 48.7 points per game. However, I think Ohio State’s defense, only allowing eight points per game, could get more stops than Bama’s.

Alabama is allowing 16.4 points per game, let Ole Miss score 31 points and Texas A&M 28. I do not think they would be able to stop the OSU offense led by Justin Fields, J.K. Dobbins and others.

LSU and Oklahoma are in the same boat.

The Tigers’ offense is even more incredible as quarterback Joe Burrow has led them to score 50.1 points per game, but their defense is allowing 20 points per game.

LSU let Vanderbilt score 38 points. Vanderbilt? Yeah, the Buckeyes could easily outscore them by moving up and down the field on the Tigers’ defense.

Oklahoma is scoring even more points per game than LSU averaging 50.4 points per game behind the stellar play of quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Sooner defense on the other hand is allowing 19.4 points per game.

Oklahoma allowed Houston to score 31 and Kansas to score 20. Again, I don’t think the Sooners have anyone on defense good enough to stop the high-powered Buckeye offense.

With the Clemson Tigers, they just haven’t looked good all year, at least not like the team that won the national title last year. They barely beat North Carolina this year 21-20. North Carolina, really?

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence has also looked less-than-impressive with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions after throwing for 30 touchdowns and four interceptions last season. Give me the Buckeyes.

Next. Why successful season includes going undefeated. dark

Ohio State has weapons on offense with Fields, Dobbins, K.J. Hill, Binjimen Victor, Chris Olave and Master Teague. The Buckeye defense has a ton of guys who can stop the run and the pass and a quarterback’s worst nightmare – an elite pass rusher in Chase Young. With the combination of an elite offense and an elite defense, I think Ohio State can beat any team in the country.
