The Ohio State football team moved up to the No. 3 spot in the AP Poll and once again a loss to an SEC team won’t hurt you that much.

When the Ohio State football team went on the road and defeated the Northwestern Wildcats Friday night it must have impressed the AP voters as the Buckeyes moved up to No. 3 in this week’s poll. I do find it interesting Top 10 teams that aren’t undefeated all have one thing in common, their loss came to an SEC team.

Alabama and LSU still hold the top two spots while Ohio State jumped over Clemson to take the third. Oklahoma stayed at No. 5 and Penn State moved up to the 6th spot by defeating Michigan and Wisconsin losing.

All six of those teams are undefeated. Now a look at the four teams in the Top 10 who aren’t and the teams they lost to.

No. 7 Florida (7-1) lost to LSU 42-28.

No. 8 Notre Dame (5-1) lost to Georgia 23-17.

No. 9 Auburn (6-1) lost to Florida 24-13.

No. 10 Georgia (6-1) lost to South Carolina 20-17.

It didn’t hurt the No. 11 ranked team in the country much by losing to an SEC team either. Oregon (6-1) lost to Auburn 27-17.

These teams are ranked ahead of four undefeated teams and two play in Power 5 Conferences.

More on that after looking at the Top 25 teams in the Week 9 AP Poll.

  1. Alabama
  2. LSU
  3. Ohio State
  4. Clemson
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Penn State
  7. Florida
  8. Notre Dame
  9. Auburn
  10. Georgia
  11. Oregon
  12. Utah
  13. Wisconsin
  14. Baylor
  15. Texas
  16. SMU
  17. Minnesota
  18. Cincinnati
  19. Michigan
  20. Iowa
  21. Appalachian State
  22. Boise State
  23. Iowa State
  24. Arizona State
  25. Wake Forest

Appalachian State is 6-0 and plays in the Sun Belt Conference, 7-0 SMU is in the American Athletic Conference. However, Baylor (Big 12) and Minnesota (Big Ten) play in Power 5 Conferences and are ranked behind one loss teams.

Next. Don't expect Wisconsin to roll over. dark

It does make one wonder if either Baylor or Minnesota played in the SEC instead of another major conference they would be ranked as low as they are. Just a thought.
