CL:

Two things you know for certain about this game. First, the fact losses in mid-season night road games have kept the Ohio State football team out of the College Football Playoff the last two years are on the minds of players and coaches. Second, a Pat Fitzgerald coached team will always give you their best shot, especially at home.

Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio had a good defensive scheme to slow down the high-powered Ohio State offense early and expect coach Fitzgerald’s Wildcat defense to have a few wrinkles at the beginning as well. Just like against the Spartans, the Buckeye offensive coaches will figure it out by the second quarter.

You can guarantee coach Ryan Day will stick to his game plan, and that will include playing physical and pounding the rock. That will wear down the defense and open up the passing game as well.

It’s hard to imagine the weak Northwestern offense getting anything going against the Ohio State defense, one of the best in the country.

The Buckeyes will pull away, and after getting a sizeable lead coach Day will pull his starters. After all, there is a pretty big game coming up next Saturday.

In the end it will be Ohio State 41-Northwestern 13.
