Buckeyes pull away in second half

The Spartans began the second half by taking advantage of poor defense by the Buckeyes that hinted to problems from last year, but the Silver Bullets buckled down to force a field goal attempt that went wide, keeping the score at 27-10.

Ohio State moved down the field well on their next drive, as K.J. Hill passed Cris Carter for second-most receptions in OSU history, but Fields threw an interception for the first time this season on a pass that was read well by Michigan State corner back Josiah Scott.

The next two Michigan State drives went nowhere, as Baron Browning sacked Lewerke on third and long to force a punt. Browning truly earned the Silver Bullet title, as he was shot out of a cannon while Young drew two linemen.

Dobbins was the catalyst in the Buckeyes’ final scoring drive, but Fields finished the drive with a touchdown rush from a yard out, giving the Buckeyes a 34-10 lead that would remain unchanged.

The teams exchanged turnovers (Fields fumble, Jordan Fuller interception on D) after a Michigan State punt. Michigan State still failed to really get anything going on offense, and another Silver Bullet sack by Shaun Wade put the finishing touch on a dominant Ohio State defensive performance.

Young winced after that sack, but looked alright as the Buckeyes simply ran out the clock to head into the bye week at 6-0, carrying increasing momentum to be in the conversation for the best team in college football.

Another fantastic defensive performance (285 total yards allowed) made the task easy for the offense, who were once again led by Fields (17-25 for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns with an INT, plus 61 yards and a TD on the ground) and Dobbins (24 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown).

Check out my MVP’s for the game.
