The Ohio State football team was a “wait and see” team in the preseason. After two games, the Buckeyes are better than expected under Ryan Day.

Before the season started, many question marks surrounded this 2019 Ohio State football team. Some questioned whether or not Ryan Day could handle the pressure of being a first time head coach at a place like The Ohio State.

Also, would Justin Fields be able to learn the offense and throw from the pocket. In addition to that, there were concerns about the defense with fans wondering how the Silver Bullets would perform following last year’s results.

Those were the three biggest points of interest this offseason which led the media to select Michigan as the odds on Big Ten favorite and College Football Playoff contender. However, the pen that was used to script the Buckeyes’ season ignorantly as compared to the one in which the Ohio State football team is using to write their own story is a bit different.

Ohio State scores 28 points faster than the strike of a lightning bolt to open the season against FAU. Then last Saturday, the Buckeyes shut out the Bearcats while putting on another extremely impressive offensive showing.

Justin Fields has accounted for 561 yards, nine touchdowns and zero turnovers through two games. His performance has him in the early running for the Heisman Trophy alongside Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts and Jonathan Taylor.

Fields showed great poise and command in the pocket against Cincinnati as he orchestrated the offense to a strong 42 point showing.

His counterpart JK Dobbins added 141 yards and two scores as the offensive line dominated up front all afternoon opening up bus lanes for the RB. Moreover, the Ohio State offense has not just been the literal 1-2 punch as expected.

Rather, the ball has been distributed all around the offense thanks to the creativity of coach Ryan Day and utilization of talent across the board. The tight ends have played large roles in each of the first two games and that is something Day and Kevin Wilson want to continue throughout the season.

The play on the other side of the ball has been impressive as well.
