No. 2:  Alabama

Well, it’s the usual suspects atop the college football world once again. Alabama is coming in at number two after overcoming a sloppy start against Duke in week one. Tua Tagovailoa and Jerry Jeudy are already in midseason form.

Tagovailoa threw for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jeudy accounted for 137 of those yards and a touchdown. Alabama did struggle to get the ground game going, but the Tide went on to route the Blue Devils 42-3.

No. 3:  Georgia

Stop me if you’ve heard this before. Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia are top three teams in the country after week one. It’s almost redundant to even mention it at this point.

In a rare instance, Georgia opened conference play with their first game of the year against Vanderbilt. Jake Fromm wasn’t asked to do much, only throwing for 156 yards. However, in typical Georgia fashion, the Bulldogs ran for 323 yards as a team.

D’andre Swift accounted for 147 of those yards. Georgia held Vandy to only 225 yards of total offense. It was a workmanlike effort for Georgia, and mighty boring to watch might I add.

No. 4:  Oklahoma

Well how about that. The top four doesn’t differ one bit from the AP poll after one week of action.

The Oklahoma Sooners took on the Houston Cougars in the only Sunday night game of the opening weekend. The Cougars, much like the Sooners, returned one of the top offenses in the country, and one of the worst defenses.

Jalen Hurts made his Sooner debut and Alex Grinch made his debut as defensive coordinator. Hurts had an insane debut, scoring six touchdowns and accumulating 508 yards of total offense by himself.

The defense actually played real defense as well while the starters were in, holding the Cougars to 167 yards passing.

With only one week of action to judge these teams, it could be argued many other teams could crack the top four. But only two in particular really look the part of a playoff contender both on paper and after week one:
