Did Ohio State play well enough in Week 1 to look like a playoff contender? Here is a look at the top four teams at the moment and others closing in.

Our first full weekend of college football action was uneventful and a tad sluggish. Fans had to wait until 6:30 PM CST just watch a game between two ranked opponents.

Still there’s a lot to unpack, a lot of overreactions to discuss and a lot of predictions to make. Thus begins our weekly college football playoff predictions and how our beloved Buckeyes fit in the playoff race.

We’ll also take a look at individual performances and how it might affect the Heisman race.

These predictions are fluid, meaning they can (and will) change from week to week. The goal is to “predict” what the college football playoff would look like if the playoff took place following the previous week of football.

It’s an imperfect system, but football fans just can’t resist a good prediction. As always, we’ll discuss how the current college footballs landscape pertains to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

So without further ado, I bring to you my “Week One College Football Playoff” beginning with the consensus No. 1 team in the nation.

No. 1:  Clemson

As it turns out, there might be a Heisman candidate playing for the Clemson Tigers not named Trevor Lawrence. Travis Etienne, the most underrated running back in all of college football this season, turned in a very noteworthy performance in week one, rushing for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns on only 12 carries.

On a night in which All-World quarterback Trevor Lawrence struggled, completing just over 50% of his passes for one touchdown and two interceptions, the Tigers didn’t lose one bit of steam. That should scare everyone, especially ACC teams.

Clemson is at home against Texas A&M in week two.

Now for the three other teams that would be included in the playoff if the season ended now.
