Judging by the 42-3 win over Akron, Illinois might be a sleeper team in the West.

Lovie Smith has 17 returning starters, and most importantly a solid starting quarterback in Brandon Peters.

It showed against the Zips. The Fighting Illini did exactly what a team looking to make a jump to bowl eligibility does against inferior opponents.  Dominate.

UConn beat Wagner 24-21 behind Kevin Mensah’s 144 rushing yards.

I don’t think Illinois will have much trouble getting to 2-0.  The Huskies’ defense won’t be able to contain Illinois’ balanced attack.

Illinois wins 38-17.
