Any sort of questions surrounding the Ohio State QB situation were answered by Ryan Day on Monday, and he also named the Captains for the 2019 Buckeyes.

In a battle between two QB transfers from the SEC, sophomore Justin Fields from Georgia came out on top over graduate transfer from Kentucky and Dublin native Gunnar Hoak. It was announced earlier today Fields will start the first game of the season against Florida Atlantic.

The former five-star recruit was highly favored to beat out Hoak, but the fact that head coach Ryan Day waited until 12 days before kickoff left some Buckeyes fans questioning whether Fields had shown enough to be the man for the job.

It seems in the end Day was simply motivating Fields, continuing that trend by saying,

"“I still don’t think he’s where he needs to be, but over the past week, I think he’s played at a starter level.”"

Now that the QB “questions” are answered, coach Day turned his attention to naming the Captains for the 2019 Scarlet and Gray squad.

On the offensive side of the ball, Heisman-candidate RB J.K. Dobbins is joined by K.J. Hill and C.J. Saunders, who are both important leaders in the impressive WR unit.

The Captains for the Silver Bullets are linemen Jonathon Cooper and Chase Young, linebacker Tuf Borland and safety Jordan Fuller.

More from Ohio State Buckeyes

Fuller and Borland are returning captains from 2018 who will need to provide leadership for a defense that struggled mightily at times last season.

Dobbins, Hill, Saunders, Cooper and Young are all Captains for the first time but have don’t lack for experience, or being leaders and dominating on the field. If Fields can develop alongside the offensive Captains into an even better leader as he gains experience, the offense will have leaders at the QB, RB, and WR positions, which is invaluable in creating an explosive offense.

The offensive line still needs work, and even with the experience and leadership on the defensive side of the ball, improvements still need to be made for the Buckeyes to be great in 2019.

But with QB questions out of the way and exceptional Captains leading the charge, the 2019 Scarlet and Gray have the chance to be something special.
