Ohio State coaches Chris Holtmann and Ryan Day have had plenty of success on the recruiting trail and each received more good news this week.

Coach Holtmann landed a star guard for his 2021 recruiting class two days ago when Meechie Johnson committed to play for Ohio State. Also, a star offensive tackle who is a member of coach Day’s 2020 class shut down his recruitment, and that’s a good thing.

First a look at the guy who will play on the hard court.

Johnson is ranked as the 5th best combo guard and the No. 71 player overall player in the country. He is from Cleveland and joins another in-state recruit in the class.

Kalen Etzler, from Convoy, OH, is ranked as the 28th best power forward and the No. 149 player. The two commits have Ohio State at the top of the rankings at the moment.

Now for football.

Parris Johnson has been committed to the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class for some time but teased those of us who follow recruiting by taking visits to other schools. It was reported by Bill Kurelic of 247Sports he has now shut down his recruitment.

Here is what he had to say about the situation according to Mr. Kerelic.

"“It’s a done deal,” Johnson said when asked about Ohio State."

That’s certainly great news for coach Day. Johnson is the top offensive tackle and the No. 7 player overall in the 247Sports Composite.

In addition to Johnson being solid in his choice it probably means his buddy from Cincinnati defensive tackle Darrion Henry, another recruit in the class, probably is too. It has been widely reported the two were interested in playing their college ball together.

Coach Day has the third best recruiting class in the country at the moment so things have been going well. But you know he had to have breathed a sigh of relief when Johnson shut down his recruitment.

Next. No clear starter or motivation for Justin Fields?. dark

Things certainly are looking up for Buckeyes’ recruiting in both football and basketball aren’t they?
