With the commitment of 4-star OLB Kourt Williams, the Ohio State 2020 class is loaded with outstanding players on the defensive side of the ball.

With OLB Kourt Williams committing to play for the Buckeyes, Ryan Day has a loaded group of terrific defensive players in his 2020 Ohio State recruiting class. New coaches and fresh ideas will hopefully combine with this influx of talent to return the Buckeyes to the historic Silver Bullet status.

In the past few months, Ohio State has gone from having a weak 2020 defensive class (only one recruit on that side of the ball as of June 7th) to having a rich class with talent in all areas of the defense.

Now, coach Day has two 4-star safeties, three 4-star Linebackers, a 4-star each of a CB and DT and a talented 3-star DE in the class. Cameron Martinez is also a talented 3-star recruit who could see playing time on offense or defense, with defense being the more likely scenario.

Each recruit contributes greatly to a fantastic class that ranks third nationally according to 247 Sports. Each unit is equally represented with the secondary being the deepest. There is plenty of talent coming in on the D-Line and the linebacker corps as well.

The class will hope to bring fresh talent to the football program and a return to the Silver Bullet defenses of old. In recent years we have seen the Buckeye defense struggle often.

With 8 (or 9) highly talented players coming in, and with another year of high school for improvement to be made before they even arrive at Ohio State, the 2020 class could be an amazing class.

While guys like Chase Young and Malik Harrison will be gone, along with Jordan Fuller and Damon Arnette, the 2020 class will be able to learn alongside talented players such as Tyreke SmithBaron Browning, and Jahsen Wint.

Guys like Darrion Henry could eventually lead the defensive line, while guys like Mitchell Melton or Cody Simon will lead a consistently improving linebacker corpsLejond Cavazos and Clark Phillips III will continue the Buckeyes’ growing tradition of producing NFL-caliber DBs.

And of course, more commitments will come. Even if Elias Ricks doesn’t switch his commitment to Ohio State, at least two or three priority targets on defense could join the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class.

With the amazing talent incoming next season, the Buckeyes have another chance to return to the Silver Bullet status that led to championships in 2002 and 2014. But before then, the 2019 defense will also be markedly improved, so look for the Silver Bullet defense to start a year early.
