It has been reported one of the top targets Ryan Day wants to add to his 2020 Ohio State recruiting class will be making his college choice soon.

It has been well-known for some time coach Day and his staff has been actively pursuing four-star linebacker Kourt Williams. He posted on Twitter he will be announcing his college choice tomorrow.

Williams is ranked the 12th best outside linebacker and the No. 163 player overall in the 2020 class in the 247Sports Composite. He is listed at 6 ft. 1, 216 pounds and plays his high school ball at St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California.

According to Bill Kurelic of 247Sports Williams is being recruited at the bullet / safety position co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison and linebackers coach Al Washington will employ. He looks the part as he is similar in size to 6 ft. 2, 210 pound Brendon White who is expected to play the position this fall.

It’s interesting Jeff Hafley is listed as the lead recruiter for Williams. He and receivers coach Brian Hartline are tearing things up on the recruiting trail.

That fact as well as these lead me to believe Williams will play for the Buckeyes. First I want to share the linebacker’s response when asked about his visit to Ohio State in June as reported in Mr. Kurelic’s article.

"“It was great,” Williams said at the time. “My family and I loved it.”"

Now, I also want to point out Ohio State is the leader in Crystal Ball Predictions at 75 percent to 25 for UCLA.

Coach Ryan Day and his staff are on their way to an impressive recruiting class which is ranked No. 3 at the moment. But while things moved along quickly early on the offensive side of the ball with coaches returning, defensive players were taking a wait and see approach with the new staff.

More from Ohio State Buckeyes

That has now changed, and in a big way.

Here is a look at defensive players already committed to the class.

  • Clark Phillips III:  No. 4 CB
  • Lathom Ramsey:  No. 4 S
  • Cody Simon:  No. 9 OLB
  • Darrion Henry:  No. 17 DT
  • Lejond Cavazos:  No. 23 S
  • Mitchell Melton:  No. 45 OLB
  • Ty Hamilton:  No. 40 SDE

It’s up in the air whether the No. 16 ATH in the recruiting class Cameron Martinez will play on offense or defense.

Next. 2 keys for the Buckeyes to win Big Ten again. dark

If Kourt Williams commits to play for Ohio State tomorrow, it will be another feather in Ryan Day’s cap as far as his first recruiting class is concerned. It will also ensure the class will end up as one of the best in the country.
