Ohio State Football: K.J. Hill definitely underrated
Receiver K.J. Hill is one player who has been under the radar but that won’t be the case after he breaks the Ohio State record for receptions this season.
In a recent article by Brad Crawford of 247Sports he listed the most underrated players in college football and Ohio State receiver K.J. Hill was on the list. I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Crawford.
K.J. Hill is on the verge of becoming the all-time reception leader for Ohio State and few seem to notice. It wasn’t an easy path for the Buckeye H-back to get to that point which makes his accomplishments even more impressive.
Let’s start from the beginning and go from there.
Hill was a last-minute addition to the 2015 class, and as a recruiting nerd I was shocked because I didn’t think he would be a member of the class. Even more so because Urban Meyer envisioned him as an H-back.
Urban had always looked for catch and run guys at that position and K.J. appeared to be more of a pure receiver from videos I watched and articles I read.
After being redshirted his first year, Hill had 18 receptions for 262 yards and a touchdown in 2016. Then things would take off for the Buckeye H-back.

In 2017 Parris Campbell was the starter but Hill was playing well also. When Campbell was nicked up in the middle of the season Hill stepped up big time.
He finished the season with 56 catches for 549 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Last season Campbell and Hill formed what is arguably the best H-back duo in college football history. Campbell caught 90 passes for 1,063 yards and 12 touchdowns. Hill had 70 receptions for 6 scores.
Hill has simply become a first down ready to happen and a guy a quarterback has confidence in during a crucial situation.
K.J. Hill may not be the most explosive receiver to wear the Scarlet and Gray, but he may end up being the all-time reception leader for Ohio State.

He has had 144 receptions during his career and David Boston holds the record with 191. If Hill stays healthy this year, it’s almost a foregone conclusion he will be the new record holder.
