Here is a look at the top 12 quarterbacks to play for Ohio State. The list includes a great QB from the Paul Brown era to those who played for Urban Meyer.

In a recent article I listed the top 10 Ohio State running backs of all time, in my opinion. Now it’s time to go over the top 12, not 10, quarterbacks who played for the Buckeyes.

12) Craig Krenzel:

Krenzel was the first star quarterback of the Tressel era and led the Buckeyes to a 14-0 record and a national championship in 2002.  There is an argument he was not overly impressive since he only threw for 4,493 yards, 28 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.

But he was known for making big plays when needed. One of those being the Holy Buckeye of 2002 when he threw it to Michael Jenkins with 1:36 left to pull out a win over Purdue.

Krenzel is on this list primarily because of his leadership and that he was a big reason Ohio State became a championship team once again.

Krenzel was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round in 2004 and played for two seasons in the NFL.

11)    Joe Germaine:

Germaine was behind center for the Buckeyes from 1996-1998.  In three seasons he threw for 6,370 yards and 56 touchdowns.

Germaine would also have a few awards handed to him. Those were the Chicago Tribune Silver Football in 1998, Rose Bowl Player of the Game in 1997 and he made the Ohio State All-Century Team in 2000.

Germaine was drafted in the fourth round in 1999 by the St.Louis (now LA) Rams. He was a backup when the Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV (34). He then went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals and the San Diego (now LA) Chargers.

Germaine would later head to the Arena Football league for the Arizona Rattlers and Utah Blaze. He passed for 14,416 yards and had 290 touchdowns in his Arena League career.

Germaine is now the head coach for Queen Creek High School, and a few years back he and his team won the Arizona Division III State Championship.
