In a previous article I pointed out how some Ohio State football players obviously made the correct decision to turn pro. Now let’s look at the others.

When a player leaves the Ohio State football team after three years to enter the NFL you sometimes wonder if they made a good decision or not. Especially if coming back for one more season could elevate their draft stock significantly.

I think most of these players made the right move to enter the NFL early. It’s hard to say if they would have returned for one more season their stock would have improved, and it could possibly have dropped.

I think it’s a good move if you are drafted in the 2nd round. Taking guaranteed money is never a bad thing.

Here are 2nd round picks Urban Meyer recruited.

  • Vonn Bell #61, New Orleans Saints
  • Curtis Samuel #40, Carolina Panthers
  • Raekwon McMillan # 54, Miami Dolphins

If you don’t get chosen in the first two rounds though things get dicey. Once a player drops below the second round there isn’t much guaranteed money.

He will have to perform well just to stay on the roster hoping for a nice payday when he signs his second contract. Now a look at guys who fell into that category.

More from Ohio State Buckeyes

Even though he was a three-year starter for Ohio State, Michael Jordan was chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 4th round in this year’s draft. Noah Brown only started one season for Ohio State and was drafted in the 7th round by the Dallas Cowboys in 2017.

Both players may end up having fine careers but I doubt they expected to be drafted as low as they were.

One former Ohio State football player should definitely have returned for his fourth season. Jalin Marshall went undrafted and has had problems making, or staying on, an NFL roster since.

dark. Next. Will players from the ‘Lost Class’ lead Bucks to title?

You never know for sure when a player leaves Ohio State for the NFL with eligibility remaining if it’s a smart move or not. Especially after only playing three years of college football. For the most part the three and done Buckeyes have made the right decisions so far and it paid off.
