Ohio State Basketball: A transfer, and how it could affect recruiting
It was reported yesterday freshman Jaedon LeDee is transferring from Ohio State. How will that affect Chris Holtmann’s recruiting?
It wasn’t like the Ohio State head coach had an abundance of big men on the roster and now it has been widely reported 6 ft. 9 Jaedon LeDee is transferring. How will that affect coach Holtmann’s recruiting going forward?
It actually could be a win-win situation for both LeDee and the Buckeye head coach.
According to an article by Colin Hass-Hill of Eleven Warriors, LeDee had never played center before this season. He certainly didn’t appear comfortable in that role even though he played well at times.

A change of scenery in a different system may be just what LeDee needs. And with having an extra scholarship to offer coach Holtmann may be able to fill a need.
It’s well known he has been attempting to land seven foot center Ibrahima Diallo. He would be a great addition to this year’s Ohio State recruiting class if the big center could provide quality minutes backing up Kaleb Wesson his freshman year.
But with another scholarship available coach Holtmann could add a veteran power forward / center who could make a big impact next season.
Now that the basketball season is over for most teams there will be graduate transfers moving on from their current school. There will be veteran players who are effective in the paint who may consider playing for the Buckeyes for the same reason Keyshawn Woods did. To play in March.
Coach Holtmann always seems to have a plan when loading up his roster and I wouldn’t bet against him to bring in the right pieces of the puzzle. Whether bringing in high school recruits or graduate transfers he seems to be able to fill in the blanks.
And for Jaedon LeDee, I hope he lands in the right situation. When he stepped on the floor for Ohio State he gave great effort and came across as a good teammate. That’s good enough for this Buckeye fan.
