There were exiting games leading up to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament but today Michigan State and Michigan took care of business.

The Big Ten has been the strongest conference in the country this season so to see lower seeded teams pull off upsets during the tournament wasn’t surprising. But in the end, the Michigan State Spartans and Michigan Wolverines proved they are the cream of the crop and will play in the finals tomorrow.

In the first contest Michigan State defeated Wisconsin 67-55 and the game appeared to be over before it really got started. The Spartans jumped out to a 27-10 lead with a little under 8 minutes left in the first half but the Badgers stormed back and it was just 35-27 at halftime.

The game was competitive after that for the first 10 minutes of the second half with Michigan State up by 6. Then the Spartans began to pull away and the Badgers didn’t have another run in them.

Michigan State once again was led by Cassius Winston who scored 21 points, Xavier Tillman with 17 and Kenny Goins 13. Scoring in double figures for Wisconsin were Ethan Happ with 20 points and Kobe King who scored 13.

The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Minnesota Gophers 76-49 in the second Big Ten semifinal. After the first nine minutes of the first half and the game tied at 13, you wondered if either team would score 60 points.

Then the Wolverines scored, continued to build on their lead and turned the game into a rout. The Gophers just didn’t have enough firepower to keep up.

More from Ohio State Buckeyes

Michigan was led by Isaiah Livers who scored 21 points, Zavier Simpson had 15 and Ignas Brazdeikis 13. Minnesota’s two players in double figures were Amir Coffee with 14 points and Jordan Murphy who scored 10.

The competition in this year’s Big Ten Tournament solidified the fact the conference is the strongest in the country. The four teams who played today are assured of going dancing, as are Purdue, Maryland and Iowa.

And with the win over the Indiana Hoosiers, the Ohio State Buckeyes will almost certainly be invited to the tournament. But with the way things are playing out in other conferences it looks like Indiana will probably be left out.
