Two legendary Buckeyes in attendance for the State of the Union Address Tonight
Anthony Gonzalez was an outstanding receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes and is now U.S. Congressmen paying tribute to his former coach.
Last November, former Ohio State wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio’s 16th District. Tonight, he will attend his first State of the Union Address as a congressman.
Want to know who will join him as his guest? His former head coach and longtime mentor Jim Tressel. He was invited by his former wide receiver standout to be his guest as President Trump addresses the nation tonight.
Earlier this evening, Gonzalez tweeted:
"Excited to be joined at my first #SOTU by my wife, Elizabeth, and my former football coach and longtime mentor @JimTressel5. Jim has always encouraged me to go where I thought I could be the most useful. For me, that was Congress. Proud to share this moment with him today."

Doesn’t that say a lot about how coach Tressel influenced his young players during their time at Ohio State. Not just how to perform on the field but to take an interest in your community off of it.
And it’s nice to see players who played for Tress appreciate the lessons he taught them. And to think a U.S. Congressman holds the former Ohio State head coach in such high regard he wanted him to be his guest at the State of the Union.
Gonzalez was a three-year starter for the Buckeyes including making the All-Big Ten team in 2006. Jim Tressel coached Gonzalez for three years at Ohio State.
After a memorable career with the Buckeyes, Gonzalez was the 32nd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. After a 5 year career with the Colts and a brief stint on the Patriots practice squad, Gonzalez retired from the NFL in 2012 to enroll in the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Now he represents Ohio’s 16th district as a congressman!
I don’t have a clue what Anthony Gonzalez’ political views are because he doesn’t represent my district. His may be in line with mine or not but I don’t care at the moment.
I am just going to embrace the fact he has chosen to try to make a difference for others off the playing field, and he is showing respect for his former head coach who guided him along that path.
