After a strong start to conference play in which the Terrapins had won 6 Big Ten games in a row, Maryland has suddenly hit a speed bump losing their last two to Michigan State and Illinois. Largely behind big man Bruno Fernando and guard Anthony Cowan Jr., Maryland was playing some of the best basketball in the country. But unfortunately they dropped one to the hottest team in the country at the time Michigan State.

Then in what should be characterized as a let down performance, the Terrapins laid an egg against the now 6-14 Fighting Illini. Don’t expect Maryland to keep losing though, they will try to right the ship in week 13 with games against Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Minnesota suffered a rough road loss to Michigan to start off week 12 thanks to wild buzzer beater from Charles Matthews to fall by a score of 59-57. Jordan Murphy had a double-double and led the Gophers in points scoring 15 in the near upset of the Wolverines.

Minnesota would end week 12 with a huge home win over the Iowa Hawkeyes though, one that will be a good resume booster come time to select for the NCAA Tournament. Murphy led the team once again in that game, scoring 23, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists.

Noticing a theme here? Jordan Murphy can really play and he hasn’t gotten the national notoriety that he deserves.
