Ohio State Football: Top single season performances this decade
The Ohio State football program has had numerous future NFL players and Heisman Trophy winners come through Columbus leaving an impact that will forever be etched in Buckeye history.
This decade has been a major one for Ohio State pulling in a National Championship and multiple conference titles. It’s time to rank the eight best single season performances by Buckeyes this decade with some occurring during the same season.
Let’s start out with Zeke.
1. 2014 | RB Ezekiel Elliot Carries The Buckeyes To a Natty
2014 Stats: 273 Carries, 1,878 Yards, 18 Touchdowns, 220 Receiving Yards
Ohio State started off 2014 having to replace Carlos Hyde after he departed for the NFL along with QB Braxton Miller suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder in August. The Buckeyes started the year 1-1 before ripping off 10 in a row to finish the year in the Big 10 championship Game, putting up points at a very prolific rate scoring 40+ points in all but one game the remainder of the season.
Sophomore RB Ezekiel Eliot entered December with 1,182 rushing yards before posting 220 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 59-0 beat down of a ranked Wisconsin squad to win the Big Ten Championship which enabled Ohio State to make the playoffs. Against all odds Elliot destroyed the hearts of people in the south rushing for 230 yards and another 2 touchdowns against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, including a 75 yard dagger to put the game away.
The future NFL star capped off his incredibly historic run with a 246 yard and 4 touchdown performance in the National Championship game vs Oregon.
