Ohio State Football: Jim loses final game during the Urban era
As the Ohio State football team was preparing for the Rose Bowl Jim Harbaugh’s team lost one more time during the Urban Meyer era.
The Ohio State football team will face the Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl New Year’s Day and the Michigan Wolverines were soundly defeated by the Florida Gators yesterday in the Peach Bowl. The way things have gone for Jim Harbaugh during the Urban Meyer era that does seem appropriate.
Let’s take a look at how the two coaches have fared during the four years they have faced each other.
Let’s first take a look at their team’s record during that span.
Michigan:
- 2015 10-3
- 2016 10-3
- 2017 8-5
- 2018 10-3
Ohio State:
- 2015 12-1
- 2016 11-2
- 2017 12-2
- 2018 12-1
During that period Michigan’s only title of any kind was a tie for first place in the Big Ten East this year but of course Ohio State played in the conference championship game and defeated Northwestern. It was the second consecutive Big Ten Championship for Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes.

Coach Harbaugh got off to a good start with a 41-7 victory over Florida in the 2016 Citrus Bowl. Then things went downhill.
Michigan lost to Florida State 33-32 following the 2016 season, 26-19 to South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on January 1, 2018 and of course 41-15 to Florida yesterday.
Ohio State had an embarrassing 31-0 loss in the CFP semifinals following the 2016 season. That was sandwiched between a 44-28 victory over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl and a 24-7 win over USC in last year’s Cotton Bowl. Now the Buckeyes are preparing for the Rose Bowl Game.
And of course everybody is well aware Urban Meyer is 4-0 over Jim Harbaugh in “The Game” and finished his Ohio State coaching career 7-0.
Michigan’s favorite son was brought in as the head coach to stop Ohio State’s roll as the Buckeyes were coming off a national championship. That didn’t work out the way Wolverine fans would have liked so isn’t it ironic Jim Harbaugh lost his final game during the Urban Meyer era?
