Ohio State Football: Why Justin Fields should team up with Ryan Day
On Monday night, Dan Wolken of USA Today first reported the news that Justin Fields may transfer from Georgia. If he does, will he end up at Ohio State?
After the USA Today article was published, Tuesday afternoon Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade indicated that Ohio State is the front-runner to land the dual-threat quarterback and other top schools being considered include Oklahoma and Florida State.
Fields was a five-star quarterback who committed to the Bulldogs as the Number 2 recruit in the class of 2018. In high school, the Kennesaw, Georgia native threw for more than 4,000 yards with 41 touchdowns and rushed for over 2,000 yards and 28 scores.
Fields appeared in 12 games for the Bulldogs this season. He completed 27 of 39 passes for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns. He racked up 266 yards on the ground this season as well.
Why Ohio State?
Fields and Ohio State Heisman finalist Dwayne Haskins have trained together with quarterback trainer Quincy Avery. In late July, Fields tweeted photos of a training session led by Avery that included Haskins, Fields and the Texans’ QB Deshaun Watson.
Despite a successful season for the Georgia Bulldogs, there’s no question that Fields has taken notice of the tremendous success Haskins and the Buckeyes have had this season. Although I’m sure Fields is happy for the Buckeye quarterback, I think what makes Ohio State even more enticing for him is Ryan Day.
Quincy Avery expressed his support and his trust in Day. This is what he tweeted earlier this month:
"“If I had a son who played Quarterback I would 100% want him to play for Ryan Day.”"
Coach Ryan Day has proven his worth to the Buckeyes since he was hired by Coach Meyer in 2017. His 2018 offense was #2 in the nation accounting for over 7,000 yards and 70 touchdowns with an average of 548.8 yards per game.
In addition to these impressive numbers, coach Day has proven his ability to nurture and develop young quarterbacks on all levels. The list includes Dwayne Haskins, Sam Bradford and Colin Kaepernick.
Now for the biggest question if Fields were to transfer to Ohio State.
